Battery Charging - Single Battery and Dual Battery Options
Battery charging and care are the same for both the integrated downtube battery and the optional second battery (Note: second battery kits do not include a charger, the charger is sold separately). Please follow the charging instructions provided with each bike.
A 48V 2A charger is provided with each bike. You can charge the battery(s) while they are on or off the bike.
Step 1 - Remove the rubber stopper that covers the charging port
Step 2 - Plug the charger adaptor into the battery
Step 3 - Plug the charger into a standard 110V outlet
Step 4 - The light on the charger will be red while the battery is charging and will turn green when the charge is complete. This can take 6 hours or more when a battery is completely discharged. Batteries will not overcharge if left plugged in but it is highly recommended to disconnect the battery when fully charged to avoid damage to the battery and/or risk of fire.
The Li-Ion batteries used on DŌST Bikes use only the highest quality Samsung 18650-format cells for safe, long-lasting and reliable use. Li-Ion batteries are a great improvement over lead-acid and Ni-Cad batteries: they are much lighter, do not suffer “memory effects” and they are non-toxic and recyclable.
When these batteries are well cared for they can provide years of use - up to 1000 complete cycles or more - though like all batteries they do lose their ability to hold a charge over time. There are some things we recommend to extend the life of your battery:
- Fully charge the battery when you receive the bike. Li-ion batteries are best kept at full charge, so charging after each ride is a good practice. Try not to fully deplete the battery, but if you do, try to charge it as soon as possible.
- Try to avoid extreme temperatures - below 32 F (0 C) to above 110 F (43 C) - both while using the battery and while charging. Storing your battery in a cold environment will extend its life.
- Long-term storage - If you must store your battery for several months, try to store it with between 40% and 80% charge. Fully charged or fully discharged are not recommended. If possible try to give the battery a short charge every month or so.
